Witchcraft Magic:
Magic - The Science and Art of Change
First of all I would like to say , magic is not like in the movies, be sensible about your expectations. Magic takes time and energy. Use it realistically also, its easier to lock the door of your house then spend hours casting protection spell about it. The results of your spell often come about by seeming like coincidence,, but you will know its not.
As Witches we cast spells and use magic to our advantage or for the advantage of those around us. This is done by manipulating the forces of the universe to gain what we seek. In the Sylvsn temple we believe that we have the right to do this because are part of the universal energy of the all. Magic should never be used to harm others, and there is no point, since it returns three fold. The wiccan rede says "an it harm none, do what thou will" this is law.
The manipulation of the universal forces can be done by raising energy to change the flow to gain our set goal. Energy can be raised by dance , meditation, chanting or by any of the methods of the eight fold path.
Magic is never undertaken lightly, spells should always be cast with the energies or words of "as long as it harms none", otherwise ,for example a money spell could mean gaining money from dreadful circumstances. Be careful, Be responsible. No greed only need is a useful rule of thumb.
In Sylvan witchcraft we use the building blocks of the universe, the four elements , with the fertile essence of the Goddess and God for our magic. Mostly practised are forms of sympathetic magic. This simply put, is using props in our spell that have the appropriate symbology. These "props" allow easy visualisation.
The more time and effort and energy put into a spell, the greater the result .Rhyme, meditation ect, is worth the effort, though one can never discount on the spot spontaneity working into a spell to add energy either.
One other thing I would like to add also is that a spell should be cast only on a willing person, preferably permission asked, even a healing .A spell for love should never be cast unknowingly upon a specific person ,rather cast to bring the positive force of love into your life. The responsibility of a spell is upon your shoulders when you cast it , be nice , be thoughtful, don't run amok with it. If your not responsible with it , why should it continue to work for you? , and believe me it will work for any that try there hand at it and truly believe. All serious people that want to do some homework should research the witches pyramid.
some forms of sympathetic magic are;
Candle Magic
one of the most simple and effective ways!
Candle magic is a form of sympathetic magic. Basically candles dedicated to specific purposes are burn in ritualistic form. This releases the spell as the candle burns away. The candle is first cleansed and anointed with sacred oils. The side of the candle can be marked with runes, symbology or words, dedicating it to its purpose. Meditation upon the candle improves the strength and purpose of the spell. Depending on the working , there may be a single candle or several. They may be burnt ritualy on certain days, certain months, a certain time of day, depending on the working. The colour of the candle has effect, as does the scent of the anointing oils used, crystal embedded in the candle and herbs sprinkled on to it during its burning.
If you wanted to do this method to do a healing I would cleanse candle by imagining a white light entering it. Anoint it using an oil that is suitable, say eucalyptus. I would have chosen a green candle , as green to me is associated with healing. I would place a picture of the person I wished to heal near the candle. I would light the candle on a new moon, and meditate for half an hour beside it, concentrating on seeing in my minds eye that person happy and healthy. As long as it was safe to do so , I would then let the candle burn away, or extinguish itself. The remains of this candle would be buried in my garden.
Other colours of candles I would use are
Red -- for love and female strength
Pink-- for friendship and positive loving outcomes
Yellow-- masculine strength, the sun
Black-- to absorb negativity's
Purple--gain ancient female wisdom
Green-- healing, new growth , money
White--Purify, also useful if they are the only colour available to
you, you can simply imagine this candle to be the colour
you want.
Remember , these colours are how I see them , rely on your intuition.
Cord magic
Throughout history many different traditions and peoples have believed that knots in cords are magical, and can be tied or released to activate the spell. There is the famous Greek myth of Jason and the Agurnaughts , who had a magic cord, as he released the knots, it released the winds.
Cords can be symbolic of the umbilicus to aid in the birth of a working. They can also be used to direct the energies in weaving of a web , a web of change.
It is essential to believe your spell will work, to know what you wish to achieve , to put the effort into achieving it , and then to not blab about it to all and sundry. Be wise about how , why and when.
Good luck!
